String Variations on Kaluza-klein Cosmology
نویسنده
چکیده
We study the cosmological solutions of the two-dimensional Brans-Dicke equations considering a gas of c = 1 strings in S × R as the source of the gravitational field. We also study the implications of the R-duality invariance on the solutions. To this purpose we conjecture that, as it happens for massless fields in finite boxes, the free energy of a gas of massless string excitations is not given by the corresponding toroidal compactification.

Variations of Gauss-Codazzi-Ricci Equations in Kaluza-Klein Reduction (String Theory) and Cauchy Problem (General Relativity)
We find a kind of variations of Gauss-Codazzi-Ricci equations suitable for Kaluza-Klein reduction and Cauchy problem. Especially the counterpart of extrinsic curvature tensor has antisymmetric part as well as symmetric one. If the dependence of metric tensor on reduced dimensions is negligible it becomes a pure antisymmetric tensor. PACS:03.70;11.15
متن کاملVariations on Kaluza-klein Cosmology
We investigate the cosmological consequences of having quantum fields living in a space with compactified dimensions. We will show that the equation of state is not modified by topological effects and so the dynamics of the universe remains as it is in the infinite volume limit. On the contrary the thermal history of the universe depends on terms that are associated with having non-trivial topo...
متن کاملCompact hyperbolic extra dimensions: branes, kaluza-klein modes, and cosmology
We reconsider theories with low gravitational (or string) scale M(*) where Newton's constant is generated via new large-volume spatial dimensions, while standard model states are localized to a 3-brane. Utilizing compact hyperbolic manifolds we show that the spectrum of Kaluza-Klein modes is radically altered. This allows the early Universe to evolve normally up to substantial temperatures, and...

String theory compactification involves manifolds with multiple warp factors. For cosmological applications, we often introduce a short, high-energy inflationary throat, and a long, low-energy Standard Model throat. It is assumed that at the end of inflation, the excited Kaluza-Klein modes from the Inflationary throat tunnel to the SM throat and reheat Standard Model degrees of freedom, which a...
متن کاملKaluza-Klein states versus winding states: can both be above the string scale?
Closed strings in extra compactified dimensions give rise to both Kaluza-Klein states and winding states. Since the masses of these states play a reciprocal role, it is often believed that either the lightest Kaluza-Klein states or the lightest winding states must be at or below the string scale. In this Letter, we demonstrate the contrary, showing that there exist toroidal compactifications fo...
